CD 2

1. No Problem (1996): Never released as a single, but we thought it should have been.
(M. Magwaza, C.M. Johnston, W. Mowatt/Gallo Music Publ SA)

2. Special Star: Jozi 2008 Mix: A nice, different way to shake off the dust on an old favourite.
Thank you Robert, Andrew and Miguel. (J.W.H. Leyden, M. Magwaza, K. Botha, A. Lazar, S. Bhengu/Gallo Music Publ SA)

3. Taken For a Moment (1994): In memory of David Webster. Our favourite arrangement.
(J.W.H. Leyden, A. Lazar, M. Magwaza/Gallo Music Publ SA)

4. Dance Some More (1984): The very first Mango Groove recording,
featuring ‘’Big Voice Jack’’ Lerole and The Mahotella Queens, and sans Claire.
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha, J. Lerole, Mtswala, G. Lewis/Gallo Music Publ SA)

5. Gone Too Soon (1997): Claire’s duet with the incomparable Mahlatini.
(J.W.H. Leyden, M. Magwaza, S. Nkabinde/Gallo Music Publ SA)

6. Deep Blue Sea (2000): A deleted track from an earlier compilation. We like the unrepentant lyrics.
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha/Gallo Music Publ SA)

7. Ulale Kanjani? (2006): Something recent, and very close to our hearts.
(J.W.H. Leyden, M. Magwaza/Copyright Control, Gallo Music Publ SA)

8. Place in My Heart (1998): Another song that we thought should have been a single:
very cheesy, but we love the top line.
(J.W.H. Leyden, C.M. Johnston, M. Magwaza/Gallo Music Publ SA)

9. Let Your Heart Speak (unreleased, 1998): Latino-Marabi?
The song was on a limited-edition single, but never made it onto an album.
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha/Gallo Music Publ SA)

10. Move Up (original version, 1987): Our first ‘’hit single’’, all 4 000 units of it!
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha, S. Bhengu, A. Lazar/Gallo Music Publ SA)

11. Love Is (original version, 1985): Our first official single release with Claire,
recorded, produced and mixed in a day in Joburg’s city centre.
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha, S. Bhengu/Gallo Music Publ SA)

12. 2 Hearts (original version, 1985): Our very first recording with Claire,
recorded in the heart of Joburg.
(J.W.H. Leyden, A.J. Lerole, A. Lazar/Gallo Music Publ SA)

13. Together As One: Kanye Kanye (2003): The official 2003 SA Rugby song,
with Jeff Maluleke. In all official languages!
(J.W.H. Leyden, C.M. Johnston, J. Maluleke/Sheer Publ CC, Copyright Control)

14. Africa Blue (2004): One of our favourites, taken off Claire’s ‘’Africa Blue’’ album.
The Swahili at the end is courtesy of Dad (Peter Leyden)
(J.W.H. Leyden, C.M. Johnston/Copyright Control)

15. Crew Cut (1985): An obscure B-side, featuring the incomparable ‘’Big Mickey’’
Vilikazi as cheerleader. Apologies for Drum Machine 101.
(J. Lerole, K. Botha, J.W.H. Leyden/Copyright Control)

16. Africa (2004): The Salif Keita, classic, redone by Claire and the band for Claire’s ‘’Africa Blue’’ album. We performed with Salif in France many years ago and have loved the song ever since.
(Salif Keita/EMI Music Publ SA)

17. Imoya (1999): unreleased, 1997. Actually inspired by a Bonnie Raitt song that was itself
inspired by an Oliver Mtukudzi song
(J.W.H. Leyden, K. Botha, C.M. Johnston/Gallo Music Publ SA)

18. Kwela? (1982): Warning: you are now entering serious Anorak territory. This song is taken off John’s very first EP recording ‘’Pett Frog: The Rest’’. Pett Frog was John’s first band, formed with Bertrand Mouton, Andy Craggs and Johnno Lloyd while John was still at school: A bizarre mix of Punk, New Romantic and Bastard Kwela. Spokes Mashiane meets Stiff Little Fingers
(and they possibly don’t get on). A nice portent: The song was recorded by Glenn Pierce at the original Gallo “Loafers” Corner building in Johannesburg.
(J.W.H. Leyden, B. Mouton, A. Craggs, J. Lloyd/Copyright Control)
