MANGO GROOVE’S FIRST EVER LIVE CONCERT DVD
Finally it’s here! Mango Groove and EMI South Africa are proud to announce the release of the first ever Mango Groove live concert DVD. Titled simply “Mango Groove in Concert’’’, the DVD is a uniquely South African celebration of the magic that is Mango Groove live.
All the classics are there, from the early hits such as ‘’’Special Star’’, ‘’Dance Some More’’, ‘’Hometalk’’, ‘’Moments Away’’ and ‘’Another Country’’’, right through to all the favourites from Mango Groove’s latest album ‘’Bang the Drum’’, including ‘’This is Not a Party’’, ‘’Hey!’’ and ‘’Prettty’’.
In addition to all the familiar songs, the show features stunning production values and loads of extra surprises, and is a true visual feast.
In the words of Mango Groove’s iconic lead singer Claire Johston: ‘’It’s difficult to believe that, after all these years, this is our first ever commercially available live concert DVD. We’ve shot a number of full-length TV specials through the years, including the Sun City Superbowl and Standard Bank arena shows, but these were never available in stores. This is something we have worked incredibly hard at, and we are really excited with the result.’’
The ‘’Mango Groove Live in Concert’’ DVD will be available in all stores from March 20th.
Mango Groove collaborate with top Brazilian singer, Ivete Sangalo, on scorching new version of ‘Hey’
With South Africa still basking in the glow of a hugely successful Soccer World Cup, all eyes are now on Brazil as the next host of the amazing global event.
It is entirely fitting that one of South Africa’s top acts collaborates with a superstar from the Latin American country. Of course, we are talking about Mango Groove and the pop star who has collaborated with the beloved South African group is Brazilian axé music superstar Ivete Sangalo. In many ways, it’s a match made in heaven – something Mango Groove is understandably buzzed about. As Mango Groove’s John Leyden tells it, “Our record label here, EMI, sent our album ‘Bang The Drum’ to their Brazilian counterparts. Through that Ivete got to hear ‘Hey’ and the request for a collaboration came through. It goes without saying that we are delighted and honoured that an artist of Ivete’s stature wanted to collaborate with us on the song.” Leyden says the band was very excited about collaboration – “especially because it was such a natural and organic fit”. “If you listen to the song you can certainly hear the similarities between South African and Brazilian rhythms and melodies and we think that the collaboration has worked really well.”
Adds Leyden, “The new version of ‘Hey’ is a true meeting of two different but complementary music styles and of two different artists: we hope that it opens up a new market for us in Brazil. South America generally is an entirely new terrain for Mango, so we are really chuffed about the collaboration”
Billed as ‘Hey! (Cada Coração)’ by Mango Groove featuring Ivete Sangalo in Brazil, Leyden’s assertion that the blend of Brazilian and South African grooves is spot-on – and the resultant track is upbeat, infectious and undoubtedly intoxicating.
Sangalo rose to fame as the lead singer of the Bahian group Banda Eva in the 1990s and embarked on a successful solo career in the early 2000's. She is Brazil’s most popular female artist, and also has a huge following in Portugal and the Portuguese Diaspora. She is a Latin Grammy Award winner (and multiple nominee) and has sold over 16 million albums. Her 2005 live concert DVD is the biggest selling in Brazil’s history (over 600 000 copies), and was the biggest selling DVD in the world in 2005. Ivete is also only the second Brazillian artist ever to perform at the biggest stadium in South America, the world famous Maracana.
Mango Groove’s ‘Bang the Drum’ is available in all stores nationwide and features the original version of ‘Hey’ amongst its hit tracks. The all new collaboration version will be featured on both Ivete’s own album and the Mango Groove South American release.
